Philosophy Wines is a boutique winery that produces small-batch, high-quality dry wines using only grapes sourced from farms and vineyards located in Maryland.
Founded in 2018 by Denise Matthews and Kimberly Johnson, both state "We incorporate characteristics from the old world as well as new theories of winemaking, utilizing french oak barrels and stainless steel fermentation vessels to create wines of unique depth and richness." Kimberly is also president of the Maryland Wineries Association where she believes that if you want change to happen, you have to be part of the change.

Their connection to Philosophy Winery runs deep—as black women and as wine professionals carving their own space in the industry, their work resonates with us on every level. Their 2020 Teroldego wine is a big treat to the US, because this grape is not widely planted here, It's native to Italy and is considered the "prince of Trentino". Due to the climate of Maryland, this grape grows and ripens very well. It's expressive with velvety tannins, floral aromas and flavors of rose, elderberry, spice, ripe blackberry, pecan, maple and a lengthy finish. 
Noteworthy: Philosophy is the first African American, women-owned winery in the state of Maryland.
